Alliance Herbalism Guide — Vanilla WoW 1-300 (Patch 1.12.1)

Herbalism is the fastest profession to level in vanilla WoW and pairs with Alchemy or is valuable on its own as a pure gold-making source. High-end herbs — Dreamfoil, Mountain Silversage, Black Lotus — sell for significant gold on any active server. This guide covers the Alliance-side route from 1 to 300.

Recommended Addon: Install Gatherer before you start. It records every herb node you pick on your minimap and world map, building a persistent route database that makes future farming circuits dramatically more efficient.

Leveling Route: 1–60 — Elwynn Forest

Pick up Herbalism from any major city trainer (Stormwind, Ironforge, Darnassus). Head to Elwynn Forest immediately. Collect Peacebloom and Silverleaf anywhere in the zone. At skill 15, start targeting Earthroot near the mountain edges and hills southwest of Goldshire — these give faster skill gains than Peacebloom due to their higher skill requirement.

Skill 60–150 — Westfall and Duskwood

Move to Westfall at skill 60. Farm Briarthorn and Mageroyal across the southern and western parts of the zone. At 100, transition to Duskwood where Bruiseweed is abundant. The area around Raven Hill is especially dense with herbs. Alliance players can also pick up Gravemoss (Alliance-exclusive herb, skill 120) at Raven Hill Cemetery — this is valuable on the AH.

Skill 150–235 — Stranglethorn Vale

STV is the core mid-level herbalism zone. Starting at 150, you'll be farming the full length of the zone. Follow the rivers and coast for Kingsblood at 125, Fadeleaf at 160 (valuable herb, relatively rare), and Goldthorn at 170. Circuit the entire zone from north to south and back. By 185 you can pick Khadgar's Whisker as well. Stay in STV until 200.

Skill 200–300 — Swamp of Sorrows and Beyond

Move to Swamp of Sorrows at 200. Farm Blindweed, Fadeleaf, and Goldthorn until 235. At 235 you can also circuit into Blasted Lands for Firebloom. For 250+ head to Un'Goro Crater for Dreamfoil and Mountain Silversage. Un'Goro is the best single zone for 250-300 — circle the outer rim and the crater floor for massive herb density.

At 300: Farm Black Lotus for serious gold. It only spawns at a few fixed locations per zone (Silithus, Eastern Plaguelands, Burning Steppes, Winterspring) and is the primary ingredient for endgame flasks. Always worth farming when you see a spawn.

Selling Your Herbs

Use Auctioneer to check prices before selling. Goldthorn, Fadeleaf, Khadgar's Whisker, and all max-level herbs sell reliably. Post in stacks of 5 and 20 to capture both Alchemists who need small amounts and those who buy in bulk.
