Best UI Addons for Vanilla WoW 1.12.1 — Clean Up Your Interface
The default World of Warcraft 1.12.1 interface was designed in 2004. It works, but it wastes screen space, has cramped unit frames, and gives you no flexibility in layout. Full UI Replacements
These addons replace most or all of the default WoW interface with a custom design. They're the highest-impact change you can make to your game experience.
pfUI — The Modern Standard
pfUI is the best full UI replacement for vanilla WoW. It's Clean, minimalist, and built entirely from scratch — no dependencies, no bloat. You get redesigned unit frames, action bars, minimap, chat frames, and buff tracking all in one coherent package.
The configuration panel (/pfui) lets you adjust colors, scale, and layout to your preferences. It also supports popular addons like DPSMate and MobHealth3 natively.
Best for: Players who want a clean, modern UI and don't mind a short setup time.
CTMod — The Classic Choice
CTMod is the original vanilla WoW UI enhancement pack. Unlike pfUI, it's modular — you install individual components (CTUnit frames, CTBar for action bars, CTBuffMod) and enable only what you want. This makes it less invasive than a full UI replacement.
CTMod has been around since 2004 and is extremely stable. If you want better unit frames and action bars without overhauling your entire UI, CTMod is the answer.
Best for: Players who want targeted improvements rather than a full UI overhaul.
Action Bar Addons
The default WoW action bar gives you two rows of 12 buttons. For most classes, that's not enough.
Bartender2
Bartender2 unlocks all six action bars and lets you position, resize, and arrange them freely anywhere on screen. Move your consumable bar to the side, make your stance bar smaller, and organize your abilities the way you actually think about them.
It's lightweight and compatible with most other addons.
Bongos Pack
Bongos is another excellent action bar addon, slightly more feature-rich than Bartender2. It includes built-in button fade, key binding display, and better support for page-swapping when your class changes stances or forms.
Minimap Improvements
Cartographer
Cartographer enhances the world map and minimap with coordinates, notes, and the ability to view unexplored zones. For navigating Azeroth efficiently — especially when following a guide — knowing your exact coordinates is invaluable.
It also tracks herb and mining nodes when combined with Gatherer-style plugins.
Buff & Debuff Tracking
OmniCC
OmniCC adds countdown timers directly on top of every spell icon on your action bars. When your trinket has 45 seconds left on cooldown, you see "45" right on the button. Simple, essential, and compatible with everything.
Chat Improvements
WIM (WoW Instant Messenger)
WIM transforms whispers into separate instant-messenger style windows. Each conversation gets its own popup, complete with a scrollable history. No more losing whispers in a busy trade channel.
Bag Management
Bagnon
