Horde Herbalism Guide — Vanilla WoW 1-300 (Patch 1.12.1)

Herbalism on the Horde side follows a different geographic path than Alliance — you spend early levels in the Barrens, Silverpine, and Hillsbrad before converging on the same late-game zones. This guide takes you through the optimal Horde-side route to 300 Herbalism.

Recommended Addon: Install Gatherer before you start. Every herb you pick gets recorded on your minimap, building a persistent farming route database you'll use every session.

Skill 1–60 — Durotar and Barrens

Train Herbalism in Orgrimmar, Thunder Bluff, or Undercity. Head to the Barrens for Peacebloom and Silverleaf anywhere across the zone. At skill 15, look for Earthroot near the rocky outcroppings and hills throughout the Barrens. Undead players can alternatively start in Tirisfal Glades — same herbs, closer starting point.

Skill 60–150 — Barrens, Silverpine, and Hillsbrad

Stay in the Barrens for Mageroyal and Briarthorn from 60 to 100. The central Barrens and areas around the Crossroads have good density. At 100, move to Hillsbrad Foothills for Bruiseweed and Kingsblood (skill 125). Hillsbrad is heavily contested by both factions — be prepared for PvP on PvP servers. Alternative at this range: Wetlands for Briarthorn and Bruiseweed away from contested areas.

Skill 150–235 — Thousand Needles and Stranglethorn Vale

Transition to Thousand Needles at 150 for Goldthorn (170) and Khadgar's Whisker (185). The mesa route circling the outer edge of Thousand Needles is highly efficient. Move to Stranglethorn Vale by 160 for Fadeleaf — a valuable herb that's relatively rare and sells well on the AH. Circle STV north-to-south for maximum herb variety. Stay until skill 200.

Skill 200–300 — Swamp of Sorrows and Un'Goro

Move to Swamp of Sorrows at 200 for Blindweed, which carries you all the way to 300 with consistent skill-ups. At 230, you can also circuit into the Blasted Lands for Firebloom and Sungrass variety. For 250+, Un'Goro Crater is the best zone — circuit the outer rim of the crater for dense Dreamfoil, Mountain Silversage, and Golden Sansam spawns.

Gold tip: Un'Goro Crater has some of the highest herb density in the game. A full circuit takes about 20 minutes and typically yields 20-40 herbs worth significant gold on any active server.

Max Level: Farming for Gold

At 300 Herbalism, focus on Dreamfoil (Un'Goro, Silithus), Mountain Silversage (Winterspring, Un'Goro), and Black Lotus (fixed spawns in Silithus, Eastern Plaguelands, Burning Steppes, Winterspring). Black Lotus is required for endgame flasks and commands premium prices. Use Auctioneer to check daily prices and list herbs in appropriate stack sizes.
