Tailoring Guide — Vanilla WoW 1-300 (Patch 1.12.1)

Tailoring is the crafting profession most directly tied to raiding success in vanilla WoW. The Bloodvine Set — Bloodvine Vest, Leggings, and Boots — is pre-raid BiS for every caster class including Mages, Warlocks, Shadow Priests, and Balance Druids. If you intend to raid seriously, leveling Tailoring to craft this set will dramatically accelerate your gearing.

Why Choose Tailoring?

Unlike most crafting professions, Tailoring does not require a gathering pair — cloth drops from humanoid enemies throughout the game, which you collect naturally while leveling. At max level, the primary draws are:

• Bloodvine Set — three-piece set BiS for pre-raid casters, craftable at 300
• Mooncloth Robe / Circlet — BiS healing gear for Priests and Druids
• Mooncloth cooldown — 28-hour crafting cooldown produces Mooncloth, which is consistently valuable on the AH
• Black Mageweave Set — mid-tier caster gear for the transition from dungeons to raids

Mooncloth Specialization

At skill 250, you can learn Mooncloth crafting from Narain Soothfancy in Tanaris. Mooncloth has a 4-day (28-hour personal) cooldown — meaning every Tailor can produce one Mooncloth every four real-world days. Mooncloth is required for Mooncloth Robe (BiS healing chest), Mooncloth Circlet, and several other high-value recipes. Its consistent demand makes it steady passive income.

Leveling 1–300: Step by Step

Skill 1–75: Linen

Craft Bolt of Linen Cloth to 35 — these are required for everything else. Then make Brown Linen Pants or Brown Linen Shirt to 75. Linen drops from low-level humanoids throughout starting zones. Buy extras from the AH if you want to speed through this range.

Skill 75–150: Wool and Silk

Learn Journeyman Tailoring. Craft Bolt of Woolen Cloth first, then make Double-stitched Woolen Shoulders or Gray Woolen Shirt from 75 to 110. At 110, transition to Silk — craft Bolt of Silk Cloth and make Silk Headband to 150. Learn Expert Tailoring from a trainer in a major city at 125.

Skill 150–250: Mageweave

Craft Bolt of Mageweave and make Crimson Silk Vest or Black Mageweave Gloves from 150 to 215. At 215, make Black Mageweave Shoulders or Runecloth Belt to 250. Learn Artisan Tailoring from Daryl Stack in Hillsbrad at 200.

Skill 250–300: Runecloth to 300

Craft Bolt of Runecloth and make Runecloth Bag from 250 to 260 — 14-slot bags sell consistently on the AH and recover material costs. Craft Runecloth Gloves and Runecloth Robe to 300. At 275, Runecloth Headband is your most efficient recipe.
